Take a seat in one of our many restaurants, or stop for a break at a café. There’s something to suit every palate and budget, and we’re passionate about both innovation and tradition.

The countless farm shops offer an abundance of spices, oils, juices, jams, fruits and vegetables. All locally grown, of course. A wealth of culinary experiences to take home with you!

Cheese with character

Vilhelmsdals Gårdsmejeri Dairy in Vranarp makes around twenty cheeses with different characters - carefully, and by hand. Choose between white-marbled and blue-marbled, and do try the traditional yoghurt and butter.

Fields of herbs and spices

Lavender flowers on vanilla ice cream, a herb mix for your own dipping sauces, or mint sugar in chocolate. At Österlenkryddor in Köpingebro you will find tradition, new ideas and even a taste of the Mediterranean.

The smell of wood smoke

Fresh seasonal fish, smoked or prepared using traditional local recipes. Nya Rökeriet in Simrishamn is one of many smokehouses along the coast. Take the taste of the sea home with you.

Strong and sweet

Sweet lavender mustard, mustard for sausages, Christmas mustard with cinnamon and cloves or the local version of Dijon mustard? Petersborgs Gård in Smedstorp knows how mustard should taste, and the mustard seeds are grown locally.

A Mecca for apples

Set amid the apple orchards, Kiviks Musteri sells juice, cider, stewed fruit and jams. Learn all about apples at Äpplets Hus.

Turkey Galore

Ingelsta Kalkon is famous across Sweden for its turkey, and is based near Smedstorp. The delicatessen counter sells every form of turkey imaginable - fresh, prepared, cooked, smoked and grilled.

The highly commended Österlen wine Domän Sånana is produced at Skillinge Vingård Vineyard and includes Pinot Noir and Ortega grapes. The red and white wines are sold at the Systembolaget off-license chain, and the vineyard arranges tours and tasting.

Market Delights

Österlens Matmarknad, a food market in Tomelilla, features goods from many local producers. Friendly and convenient.

THE SEA THAT SURROUNDS Ystad and Österlen offers more than just swimming and scenery. It also supplies delicious fish, which you can eat while enjoying the sea views.

The harbor towns and fishing villages along the coast are home to many seafood restaurants, including Havsnära Rökeri at Ystad Marina, Buhres Fisk in Kivik, Maritim Krog & Hotell in Simrishamn, Nya Rökeriet in Simrishamn, Skillinge Rökeri in Skillinge and Ahls Rökeri in Kåseberga. You can’t go wrong with a herring sandwich on rye bread.

Rural delights

RESTAURANT ALLÉ in Svinaberga, in a beautiful setting near Stenshuvud National Park, is one of many excellent restaurants in Ystad and Österlen. Here, owner Eva Thuresson and chef Jesper Dahl offer an oasis of culinary pleasures.

DANIEL BERLIN KROG in Skåne Tranås was named the White Guide’s “Rising Star 2011”, for having opened “an ambitious restaurant far from the bright lights of the city, and creating charming, confident cuisine with an indomitable will and a great deal of talent”.

Award-winning baking

Olof Viktor, Ystad, Österlen, Café

OLOF VIKTORS HAS BEEN named Sweden’s best café on several occasions, and is recommended by the White Guide. The café, coffee shop and bakery were founded by Jan Hedh, and is popular with local residents and visitors alike.

The setting is an old farm. Everything is baked by hand using natural ingredients, and the bread is baked in a stone oven. The ice cream is made from authentic ingredients – and nothing else.

Treat yourself to the farm shop’s produce, and don’t miss the art at Olof Viktor’s gallery.
